Calculators

Calculators are both a fun and exciting resource to introduce to your children.  They will always feel grown up when you introduce them as they tend be something seen as for use by older children.  It is best to introduce calculators only when there is a solid foundation and understanding of numeracy.  While they should never be seen as a substitute, they are certainly a welcome tool.  Your children can use them to check answers.  They can even use them to start to understand the concepts of larger numbers.  More importantly, they are an introduction for use in high school.

Children will certainly use calculators in maths and science in high school so it is always useful for them to have a practise in the safe environment of the primary classroom to familiarise themselves.
