Nursery Rugs – An additional source of learning

Stimulating Resources

Classrooms have come a long way in the last decade. It was not so long ago that classrooms housed the bare essentials in terms of furniture and supplies. They were seen to be functional, practical places for learning and study.  Today’s classrooms look very different. Now they are filled with a wealth of brightly coloured, fun and engaging educational supplies for children that help engender a willingness and eagerness to learn. And brightly coloured, exciting and visually stimulating classroom carpets and nursery rugs are no exception.

Far from being something to put on the floor to cover a stain, nursery rugs bring a unique and very different learning experience into the classroom setting. The range covers everything from alphabet carpets, number carpets, pretend play mats, themed carpets, learning rugs and outdoor play mats.

Amazing space

Many of the mats, classroom carpets and nursery rugs perform more than one function. Obviously they are places where children can sit comfortably during reading time or registration. But many are also placement carpets, providing a placement setting for children. Depending on the design of the carpet, the children can choose their favourite bug, zoo animal, colour or number as their own place to sit.  Placement carpets allow children to have their own individual area, helping teach them about personal space and respecting the space of others. Placement carpets are also great for managing crowd control as children know exactly where to go when summoned to group gatherings, saving time and instilling order. They also help minimise the squabbles which can occur as children argue over who sits where.

As well as being placement carpets, many of them provide additional sources of learning. For example, the counting ladybird carpets feature as part of their design both an actual number and that number represented by dots. Children can learn that 2 is smaller than 10 by seeing the number 2 has fewer dots. The shapes mini placement carpets teach children about the properties of different shapes and the highly visual emotions placement carpet has 12 different emotional and feeling expressions, with keywords to encourage group discussion. There are many such carpets like this which provide an alternative way for children to learn the core basic curriculum.

From bugs and bees to butterflies and trees

Within the learning rugs range there is a wide variety of distinctive, classroom relevant designs. There is a tell the time rug which has a moveable hour hand and minute hand and together with placement discs it a super alternative way to teach the children how to tell the time. Our Back to Nature Life Cycles carpet has colourful, clear graphics which show 4 examples of typical life cycles. Featuring birds, frogs, trees and butterflies it is linked to the UK National Curriculum. Each section of the carpet is an excellent starting point for group discussion and learning. There is even a rug which features the signs and symbols of the zodiac.

Take a look in our classroom carpets and nursery rugs range as there is bound to be one fit for your purposes. Carpets are high quality, durable, non-slip, with bound edges to prevent fraying. They will add colour and vibrancy to any classroom or nursery setting as well as delivering useful placement seating and / or an alternative curriculum learning source.
