How Do Your Students Learn Best? | Edusentials

Audio visual

As any teaching professional, carer or indeed parent will surely know, each child is highly unique, as are their individual needs and requirements. The ways in which they learn, process and absorb information is no different; regardless of what stage they’re at in their education, be it pre-school, infancy or even junior school, how they react to and take-in new information is sure to differ heavily from child to child. Leading research suggests that students (and in fact adults) largely fall into one of three categories of learner; auditory, visual and kinaesthetic.  Here at Edusentials, we appreciate that naturally some students will fall strictly into one of these categories, and some might well fall into all three, which is why we offer a wide range of classroom supplies to engage and excite a variety of different learners.

Auditory

As the name implies, auditory learners respond best to sounds, repetition and verbal reinforcement; they learn best when concepts are explained literally to them. Our range of classroom equipment, specifically our audio visual trolleys, have all been designed to facilitate this form of learning. Available in a wide range of colours, shapes and sizes, our audio visual trolleys allow teachers to present verbally from around the classroom whilst offering students a visual reference point to aid short term memory function. We also offer a highly popular rolling audio pod for older students; with MP3, CD and cassette playback, this versatile listening centre is purposefully-designed to aid students’ development through sound, speech and music.

Visual

Visual learners find it easier to process concepts, or hold things in their short term memory, through the use of visual stimuli; colour coding, using images or even making charts and graphs are powerful ways to get these students to absorb information. Easy to use classroom whiteboards enable teachers to deliver an informative, coherent presentation to the whole class; a number of accompanying whiteboard markers will also allow you to colour code facts, figures or dates, and even make use of pictures as you see fit. With our Youngstart school easels, you can even encourage students to follow your lead, providing the perfect way to test and consolidate the information you’ve just given them.

Kinaesthetic

Kinaesthetic learners absorb information best by physically sorting and assembling it; they’re practical thinkers that benefit from an active lifestyle and a dynamic teaching method. Whereas a lot of students respond best to a lecture format, with lessons delivered verbally whilst using audio aids, kinaesthetic learners absorb information best by physically doing things, by moving around and taking action. With a view to catering to this style of learning, we at Edusentials offer a range of educational supplies to suit students of all ages. Our manipulative and sensory ranges are specifically designed to encourage this style of learning within pre-school children; with a range of available activities including threading and maze navigation, these educational items give your child an appreciation for spatial reasoning and develop their hand-eye coordination from a young age. For older children, we also have a wide variety of playground equipment that encourages activity, social development and learning.

Knowing Your Students

As you come to know your students better, you’ll develop an appreciation for how each of them like to learn; it might be that they’re a strictly auditory learner, or in fact that they’re a combination of all of the above. Regardless, it’s your job to provide a novel, innovative learning experience, so don’t be afraid to introduce some slightly more innovative classroom supplies into your school environment.
