Customer Focus – Footprints Child Care, Preston

Our October customer focus is on Footprints Child Care in Bamber Bridge, Preston, a family business managed by Nichola. Having started on a career in childcare in 1999 Nichola (a mum herself) developed her skills in good people management and team development, qualities she recognised as being key to running a nursery setting, and an idea was born.

Before                                                      After

Footprints building    now

Having identified an empty local pub in a prime location Nichola and her fellow director and father Mick embarked on the ambitious project of leasing the building and completely renovating the property to include 4 rooms to cater for babies from 3 months old, toddlers and pre-schoolers. The renovation went full steam ahead, taking just 6 weeks from start to completion. During this time, as if there wasn’t enough to do coordinating the build, Mick made contact with us at Edusentials and we were privileged to be part of the equipment planning and supply in time for the opening in November 2011.

Nichola has a strong belief that parents should be one of the main focuses of the nursery, and that the parents are cared for as much as the children. Parental involvement means the transition between home and nursery is a calm and familiar experience for the child. This is possibly one of the reasons the business has gone from strength to strength and increased from a 30 place setting to a 62 place setting with 24 local staff. A fact they are rightly very proud of.

Their first Ofsted inspection, 7 months after opening was good and they have since been awarded outstanding for:
• Parental Engagement
• Healthy Lifestyle
• Deployment of staff
• Leadership of management

The setting continues to develop and they have now included music and movement dance classes and swimming activities to their timetable. We love to see our customers succeed and wish Nichola, Mick and the team the best of success for the future. For more details of their setting, see here.
